Overview

Procedural Anatomy is a tool for Houdini that enables a user to quickly generate muscle and skeletal geometry for a CG character.  The tool focuses on shortening the modeling turnaround time for generating this geometry and aims to speed up the Character FX or Rigging workflows.

Closing the gap on iteration time Procedural Anatomy enables you to place the model, setup animation, simulate and make it quick to repeat.

Technical Details

Advanced workflows

  • Fitting skeleton and muscle geometry, muscle directions, muscle line geometry for flexing, mass, and many other constraints and attributes.

  • A compatible animation skeleton for Houdini’s KineFX and exportable as FBX.

  • Model skeleton and muscle geometry with bind weight data for KineFX and FBX.

  • An animation transfer rig and muscle & skin simulation rig.

  • If your character has breasts or fat it can generate those as well. (More on that soon!)

Outputs

  • Outputs as a single package for the rig in Houdini or as multiple files for external programs.

  • Generates collision geometry as tetrahedral meshes, these are designed for use with Vellum solvers or Muscle solvers in Houdini.

  • Generates muscle lines that match the muscles and skeleton to flex the muscles automatically.

Software compatibility

  • Compatible with Houdini 20.

  • For the Indie, Core and FX license types.

Model, Animation, & Simulation

These three are the core pillars of muscle stimulation and with Procedural Anatomy we have distilled step one to a very fast process. Procedural Anatomy is where flexibility meets simplicity. Procedural Anatomy is all about anatomy for muscle simulation.
